Safety Considerations for New Orleans

The safety of anyone attending our Annual Meeting and the New Orleans community is our top priority. To this end, we’re following industry-wide standards, as well as the recommendations of the federal and local governments. More details will be made available in time, but please prepare now for the following precautions:

  • Vaccine requirement: Anyone attending or staffing APA’s Annual Meeting in person must have proof of a WHO-approved vaccination for COVID-19.
  • Masks required: The city of New Orleans is currently requiring masks for meetings and conventions, and we will follow city regulations.
    • Those rules currently state: “Effective August 16, 2021, proof of vaccination for all eligible individuals 12 years and older, or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours, will be required at most indoor venues in Orleans Parish and outdoor events where more than 500 people are in attendance. In addition, Louisiana remains under a statewide mask mandate.”
      • Please note a few other regulations from the city:
      • There are no restrictions in place for professional meetings or conventions as long as masks are worn.
      • Larger indoor gatherings such as professional exhibitions, meetings and conferences, as well as weddings and social events, can occur with 100% occupancy with masks worn.
      • Masks are required at outdoor gatherings of more than 500 people if total attendance is more than 50% of the outdoor venue's capacity.
  • Self-assessments: Everyone who attends our meeting is expected to do a simple self-assessment for COVID symptoms every day, and if they experience symptoms, they should not attend.
  • The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has achieved GBAC STAR™ accreditation through the Global BioRisk Advisory Council, a division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association. The program certifies that the facility is implementing the industry’s highest standards of cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention for infectious agents such as COVID-19 and is the leading standard of prepared facilities.
  • Hand sanitizers will be widely available throughout the convention center.
