Committee on Mental Health IT

The Committee on Mental Health IT is charged with advising APA leadership and stakeholders, including developing educational tools and resources for members, on the technical, regulatory, and clinical landscape of asynchronous technology in the practice of psychiatry. Focus areas include:

  • Mobile applications, artificial intelligence, and other technology as tools for the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses.
  • Interoperable electronic data systems incorporating psychiatric care, including electronic health records and health information exchanges, for the purposes of care coordination, quality measurement, regulatory compliance, and population health improvement.
  • Trends in psychiatry around the uptake of technology into care (e.g., compliance with interoperability and data-sharing regulations, connectivity challenges and developments, standards for certification of health information technology products).
  • Equity, access, and quality implications of asynchronous technology in psychiatry.
