Leadership in Equity and Diversity Institute Training Program

The LEAD Training Program is a specialty, exclusive, learning pathway provided through the APA’s Learning Center partnered with a monthly professional development series comprised of live online and in person seminars with psychiatry leaders. This interactive training opportunity provides psychiatry trainees with the knowledge and skills required to become culturally sensitive leaders in the psychiatric field. The program does this through exposure to diversity, equity, and inclusion concepts and processes which can be utilized for organizational and community transformation.

A flexible and interactive training opportunity where MFP resident fellows can gain a strong foundation of leadership and cultural competency knowledge. This program offers the tools and strategies essential to successfully lead in diverse environments. It provides online courses and lectures, combined with quarterly interactive sessions that facilitate engagement and networking of trainees with leaders of the field of psychiatry.

The pilot phase of the program will be offered to APA SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program awardees.

The program was conceived and developed by the APA’s Division of Diversity and Health Equity and implemented in partnership with the Division of Education. New courses are being created through collaborations between the two departments continually.

The program was officially launched in November 2021.
