MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Fair

The American Psychiatric Association (APA) is committed to advancing mental health equity and eliminating mental health disparities. As part of this work, the APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Initiative honors Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month by supporting community-driven efforts that expand access to education, strengthen pathways to care, and promote culturally responsive mental health services.

A cornerstone of this initiative, the annual APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Fair is held in partnership with local organizations and institutions of higher education since 2022. The fair brings together mental health professionals, community leaders, advocates, and service providers to share resources, foster dialogue, and support holistic well-being.

Through interactive and family-friendly programming, the Community Fair aims to:

  • Increase awareness of mental health challenges experienced by underrepresented communities while addressing stigma and misinformation
  • Provide practical, culturally relevant education on how individuals and families can support mental wellness
  • Connect attendees with local resources that address the full spectrum of needs, including mental health care, substance use services, and social supports
  • Highlight tools and resources that empower individuals to support loved ones and navigate pathways to care

Since its launch, the APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Fair has impacted nearly 1000 community members and partnered with over 100 local organizations across multiple cities, reflecting a shared commitment to meeting communities where they are, honoring their strengths, and building more equitable and accessible systems of care.
