As policymakers continue to debate health care reform proposals, APA is committed to legislative solutions that ensure benefits, coverage, medication, and access to substance use disorder treatment. APA also advocates to reduce barriers to care and help decrease the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. In addition, APA continues to advocate for the full implementation of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act to ensure that coverage for psychiatric conditions is equal to that offered for other medical conditions.
