Roeske Teaching Award

The Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D., Certificate — established in 1990 to honor Dr. Nancy C.A. Roeske — is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding and sustaining contributions to medical student education.

Criteria/Eligibility

  • APA members and fellows
  • Three or more years of involvement at the recommending institution
  • Significant and sustained contributions (at least three years at one institution) to the advancement of medical student education in one or more of the following categories: lecture; small group teaching; supervision; course design; course administration; departmental committees (curriculum, evaluation, and promotions); institutional committees (admissions, curriculum, student affairs, and promotions); career counseling; advising medical student psychiatry clubs; advising student groups; research, publications, and/or presentations in medical education; and extracurricular programs (e.g., student orientation and leading support groups)

Nomination Requirements

  • Nominators include departmental chairs or deans of the medical school, directors of medical student education in psychiatry, full-time members of the psychiatry department, and medical student and psychiatry residents. * Nomination must be endorsed by the Department chairperson.
  • Nominee's CV
  • Letter of nomination (Cite activities such as lectures, small group teaching, course design, supervision, career counseling, research mentoring, relevant publications, and advising medical student groups.)
  • Chairperson Endorsement Form
  • A sampling of student evaluations; acknowledgments of teaching awards and commendations particularly helpful
