Hartford-Jeste Award for Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry

The Hartford-Jeste Award for Future Leaders in Geriatric Psychiatry, established in 2013, recognizes an early-career geriatric psychiatrist who has made noteworthy contributions to geriatric psychiatry through excellence in research, teaching, clinical practice, and community service and has demonstrated the potential to develop into a leader in the field.

Criteria / Eligibility

Candidates for the award should be a psychiatrist who holds a position no higher than assistant professor and is no more than seven years removed from completion of a geriatric psychiatry fellowship.

Selection Criteria

The Chair of the Council on Geriatric Psychiatry convenes a selection committee to review nominees.

Nomination / Application Details

A nomination must come from APA members and include the following:

  • A Letter of Nomination
  • Two letters of support from people outside of the nominee’s institution highlighting more specific facets of the nominee’s career and contributions. At least one must be from a geriatric psychiatrist, familiar with the nominee’s work
  • Nominee’s CV with list of publications as well as grant support
  • Nominations can be submitted at
