New APA Publishing Titles Available on Climate Psychiatry and Autism
Washington, D.C. — APA Publishing has released three April titles ahead of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.
In Pivotal Response Treatment for Autism: A Guide for Psychiatrists and Support Providers, Lynn K. Koegel, Ph.D., uses accessible language to detail therapeutic steps for assisting patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Koegel focuses on forming first words, engaging meaningfully in academics, improving social communication skills, and more. The book makes clear the importance of focusing on the strengths of individuals with ASD and engaging parents as active participants in implementing pivotal response treatment.
The Handbook of Climate Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, written by Elizabeth Haase, M.D., serves to support psychiatrists as they treat patients struggling with the neuropsychiatric damage and emotional effects of the climate crisis. The volume is divided into four sections, including one on the neuropsychiatric and biological effects of climate change, one on assessing and responding to psychological responses to climate change, and one on community and institutional psychiatry’s roles in mitigating climate change.
In Forensic Neuropsychiatric Ethics: Balancing Competing Duties In and Out of Court, editors William Connor Darby, M.D., and Robert Weinstock, M.D. provide a practical approach to ethical dilemmas related to physician-assisted death, abortion, Second Amendment rights, and more. The title also includes a history of forensic psychiatric ethics, forensic ethics theories and ethics considerations and applications for forensic work.
