APA Publishing Releases New Titles on Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Personalized Psychotherapy, and More

  • August 20, 2025

Washington D.C. — American Psychiatric Association Publishing has released a series of new titles, including “Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Severe Mental Illness: An Illustrated Guide,” Second Edition and “Clinician Technique in Personalized Psychotherapy.” “Handbook of Medicine in Psychiatry,” Fourth Edition, and “APA Practice Guideline for the Prevention and Treatment of Delirium,” Second Edition, are forthcoming.

Written by Jesse H. Wright, M.D., Ph.D., Douglas Turkington, M.D., David G. Kingdon, M.D., and Monica Ramirez Basco, Ph.D., “Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Severe Mental Illness: An Illustrated Guide,” Second Edition includes new troubleshooting guides and even more video illustrations of common clinical problems. This volume helps clinicians forge collaborative therapeutic relationships, reduce suicide risk, and develop relapse prevention plans, among other interventions.

In “Clinician Technique in Personalized Psychotherapy,” author Mardi J. Horowitz, M.D., draws on decades of experience in psychotherapy research and practice to advise clinicians on forming and strengthening therapeutic alliances with their patients. The text offers evidence-based strategies on understanding and addressing defensive avoidances, applying techniques to slow down impulses, overcoming obstacles presented by patients with narcissistic traits, and more.

This new fourth edition of the “Handbook of Medicine in Psychiatry,” edited by Peter Manu, M.D., Ava-Dawn Gabbidon, M.D., and Eugene Grudnikoff, M.D., is an accessible and practical guide to the medical pathology of psychiatric patients, who often experience a higher burden of physical illnesses. The updated volume includes chapters on metabolic abnormalities and the value of interdisciplinary collaboration among psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
