APA Journals Ranked Highly in Latest Journal Impact Factors

  • June 25, 2026

Washington, D.C. — The American Psychiatric Association (APA)’s journals were well-represented in the 2026 edition of the Journal Citation ReportsTM, published by Clarivate, which assigns Journal Impact Factors to scientific publications. Impact Factor is a bibliometric calculation that describes the level of influence a journal’s published output has on the scientific literature by measuring how many times the work it publishes is subsequently cited by others.

The American Journal of Psychiatry, the official journal of APA, achieved a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 15.9. The score can be interpreted as an average, where every article that the journal published in the reporting period (2023 and 2024) was cited by almost 16 articles published in 2025. This Journal Impact Factor ranks the American Journal of Psychiatry among the leading journals in psychiatry.

The latest Journal Impact Factor for Psychiatric Services, which covers the delivery of mental health services, is 3.3. Among the 125 journals in the Health Policy & Services category, Psychiatric Services is ranked the highest of any mental health journal in that category.

The 2025 Journal Impact Factor for APA’s Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences was also 3.3, the highest in its history. The American Journal of Psychotherapy’s 2025 Journal Impact Factor was 1.7.

All four journals are available on psychiatryonline.org.
