American Psychiatric Association and Crear Con Salud Announce a Collaboration to Expand Access to Mental Health Resources in Spanish

  • January 27, 2026

Washington, D.C. — The American Psychiatric Association (APA) and Crear Con Salud today announced a new strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening mental health literacy and expanding access to reliable, culturally relevant information for Spanish-speaking communities, particularly in Puerto Rico and the United States. As part of this collaboration, Crear Con Salud joins the network of allies of LaSaludMental, the APA’s Spanish-language platform dedicated to offering evidence-based mental health resources. Through this alliance, both organizations will work in a coordinated manner to promote mental health education, reduce stigma, and facilitate access to reliable information for individuals, families, and professionals.

“Mental health continues to be a deeply stigmatized topic in many Spanish-speaking communities, and access to clear and culturally relevant information is essential,” said Dimas Tirado-Morales, M.D., M.P.H., president of Crear Con Salud. “This collaboration with the American Psychiatric Association will allow us to amplify high-quality resources and continue empowering our communities with reliable information.” Through this collaboration, the APA and Crear Con Salud will work together on a series of initiatives, including:

  • Sharing and disseminating existing APA resources through LaSaludMental.org, including links to key mental health topics
  • Integrating educational content from LaSaludMental.org into Crear Con Salud’s digital materials and educational platforms.
  • Facilitating the participation of APA member experts in Crear Con Salud initiatives, such as podcasts, newsletters, social media events, and webinars.
  • Recognizing Crear Con Salud as an official LaSaludMental collaborator, including links to its resources and content through the APA’s digital platforms and social media channels.
  • Developing and disseminating joint content, including press releases and social media posts in Spanish, to highlight the collaboration and promote mental health education.

“This collaboration reflects the APA’s ongoing commitment to improving access to mental health information in Spanish and to working alongside community organizations that are closely familiar with the needs of their communities,” said Theresa Miskimen Rivera, M.D., president of the APA. “By joining forces with Crear Con Salud, we seek to strengthen mental health education and support Spanish-speaking communities with reliable and culturally relevant resources.”

Latino communities continue to face significant barriers to accessing mental health services and treatment, including stigma, a lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate resources, and a shortage of professionals. Through collaborations like this one, the APA and Crear Con Salud seek to help reduce these gaps and improve mental health outcomes.
