Committee on Innovation

The Innovation Committee contributes to the Mental Health Innovation Zone (MHIZ) at the APA's Annual Meeting. MHIZ consists of discussion panels on innovation in psychiatry led by experts in the industry and features the Psychiatry Innovation Lab, APA's shark-tank like competition, where aspiring entrepreneurs present their business ideas to a panel of expert psychiatrists, seeking funding (cash prize) and the chance to win a trophy.

Term

Three years; volunteer leaders will be eligible for reappointment for an additional one year term at the conclusion of their first term.

Expected Time Commitment

The Committee meets twice per month; Members are expected to spend between two to five hours per month supporting the Committee's initiatives.

Desired Expertise

The Committee seeks volunteers with interest in health care advancements through technology. Volunteers with experience with technical platforms and emerging innovations related to health care offer valuable insight. In addition, volunteers with interest in collaborating on communications to promote MHIZ and PIL on social media, and update the language on our webpages are essential to the group.

Responsibilities

Members are responsible for recommending subject matter experts and topics for the Annual Meeting MHIZ, screening PIL contestant applications, creating social media posts to attract speakers and attendees to MHIZ; configuring the schedule for the MHIZ, and drafting articles for Psych News.
