The CPT coding system and the RBRVS represent the principal means of classification and payment determination for physician services by both private and public third-party payers. The Committee is charged with policy development, educational, liaison and advocacy efforts for the APA in respect to physician payment issues.
Term
Three years; volunteer leaders will be eligible for reappointment for an additional three year term at the conclusion of their first term.
Expected Time Commitment
The Committee meets monthly for one-hour, with an additional hour for reviewing materials. Volunteers should expect up to two hours/month during periods of CMS rule-making or if serving on external workgroups.
Desired Expertise
Experience in health policy development particularly relating to CPT coding, Medicare reimbursement, and overall physician payment issues relating to psychiatry. This Committee includes members who are heavily involved in the CPT and RUC processes, representing Psychiatry and advocating for appropriate coding and reimbursement for APA members.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert on physician payment policy issues related to coding and reimbursement for members and external stakeholders.
- Draft and review APA comments to Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and other rules.
- Help create tools for membership to navigate topics of coding and documentation, telehealth, etc. such as FAQs, webinars and other formats.
Additional Criteria
Strong interest in CPT coding, Medicare reimbursement, and overall physician payment issues relating to psychiatry.
