Biography
Dr. Tampi is a Tenured Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, and the Inaugural Bhatia Family Endowed Chair in Psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine, and Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) Health Behavioral Health Services in Omaha, Nebraska. He is also a Professor Adjunct of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Tampi is the Past President of the International Medical Graduates (IMG) Caucus at the American Psychiatric Association (APA). He is an active member of the Council on Geriatric Psychiatry and the IMG Caucus at the APA. Dr. Tampi has been a chair and/or a presenter on over 50 podium presentations and poster sessions at the annual meetings of the APA. Additionally, he is a contributing faculty on the “Psychiatry Review Course’ and the ‘Mindgames Masters Course’ at the APA. Furthermore, Dr. Tampi has been a Judge for the ‘Mindgames’ and ‘Mindgames Masters’ competitions at the annual meetings.
Dr. Tampi is a Past President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP). He has also served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the AAGP. Dr. Tampi was the Program Chair for the AAGP’s Annual Meeting in 2017. He is currently serving as the Inaugural Historian of the AAGP. Dr. Tampi chairs the ‘Future Leaders’ Program at the AAGP. He also chairs the committee responsible for the ‘Certificate Program in Geriatric Mental Health’ developed by the AAGP. Dr. Tampi is a highly involved member of the Membership and the Continuing Medical Education (CME) committees at the AAGP. He is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists (ACP), where is on the Membership committee. Dr. Tampi is also a member of the American Association of Chairs of Department of Psychiatry (AACDP).
Dr. Tampi has over 250 publications on various topics in psychiatry. In addition, he is an editor of 11 books in psychiatry. Dr. Tampi serves on the editorial board of the 5 international journals including the ‘Annals of Clinical Psychiatry’, and ‘International Psychogeriatrics’. Furthermore, he serves as an associate/section editor on 5 journals, and as an ad-hoc peer reviewer for an additional 77 journals.
Dr. Tampi is a highly sought out national mentor, and has officially mentored 57 physicians. His clinical and research interests are the management of psychiatric disorders in late life, ethical & legal issues in psychiatry, integrated psychiatric care, public policy and advocacy, and undergraduate and postgraduate education in psychiatry.
