The APA, in partnership with the National Latino Behavioral Health Association (NLBHA), community leaders and local organizations, hosted the 5th annual MOORE Equity in Mental Health Community Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico, welcoming more than 250 community members, including youth, families and providers for an afternoon focused on connection, education and access to care.

Held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, the event brought together 34 vendors representing behavioral health providers and community-based resources. Attendees connected directly with trusted providers and learned about culturally responsive supports designed to meet the needs of New Mexico’s diverse communities. As Regina James, M.D., deputy medical director of the APA, shared during the fair: "The goal of this event is to let people know these are the organizations in your community, and they’re here for you … so you don’t have to worry about going around town and figuring things out. They’re right here for you."

The program opened with a welcoming ceremony featuring APA President Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, M.D., D.L.F.A.P.A.; NLBHA CEO and President Fred Sandoval; and Yolanda Rodriguez, M.D., followed by a youth vocal performance and a folkloric dance presentation, highlighting the important role that culture and identity play in promoting mental well-being. Local leadership helped underscore the significance of the event. Tim Keller, the mayor of Albuquerque, attended and presented a formal proclamation recognizing APA’s ongoing work to advance mental health equity. The fair was also honored by the presence of Mexican Consul Patricia PinzĂłn, reflecting the strength of cross-border partnerships supporting community mental health access across the region.

Throughout the afternoon, Robert Olsen, M.D., president of the APA’s New Mexico district chapter, provided a workshop on "Managing Exhausting Thoughts," followed by a presentation by Dylan Pell, mental health epidemiologist for the Department of Health. The day’s events demonstrated the community’s shared commitment to improving mental health awareness, reducing stigma and expanding access to care. The MOORE Equity in Mental Health Initiative and the Community Fair help build lasting bridges between providers and communities and reinforce that mental health equity is a shared responsibility and a shared opportunity.
