Psychiatric Services Achievement Awards

The Psychiatric Services Achievement Awards recognize outstanding programs that deliver services to people with mental illness or disabilities that have overcome obstacles and that can serve as models for other programs. There are three award tiers: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

Criteria / Eligibility

Any program based in the U.S. or Canada.

Selection Criteria

Nominees for this award should have demonstrated evidence of work that includes the following:

  1. Significant contributions to the field of mental health.
  2. Demonstrate innovation.
  3. Demonstrate overcoming obstacles or extended resources.
  4. Demonstrate effectiveness and focus on quality improvement through use of quality assurance measures, quality improvement methods, UR, outcome measures, etc.
  5. Demonstrate effective use of psychiatrist, peer specialist, and other staff.
  6. Demonstrate involvement of consumer and/or family.

Selection Process

The selection committee uses the above evaluation criteria to score each nominee. Scores are then compiled into cumulative and average scores. Scores are compiled and the committee meets to finalize and select the award recipients. The final selection will be forwarded to the Joint Reference Committee and the APA Board of Trustees for final approval.

Nomination / Application Details

  • An open call for nominations will be published in APA communications.
  • Self-nominations and nominations by a colleague are accepted.
  • Nominations must include and online application containing the following information:
    • Name, date program became operational, address, program director information, description of program.
    • Statement of Consideration (100 words or fewer).
    • Supporting documentation (optional, but highly encouraged).

Deadline

July 31 of each year. Submissions will not be considered if they are incomplete or submitted after the deadline.

Notification

Awardee will be notified no later than January 31.

Award Presentation

Award plaques are presented during the APA Annual Meeting award workshop and covered in Psych News after Annual Meeting.
