APA is here to help you decide what is best for your practice. To learn about these new programs and requirements, we recommend first starting with the MACRA 101 Primer in the Payment Reform Toolkit. Then you can move on to fact sheets for more detailed information regarding the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) performance categories and “Advanced” APMs. We also recommend watching the webinar series, which includes a basic “Quality Reporting 101” webinar for psychiatrists with limited experience in quality reporting.
The MACRA 101 Primer will help you learn about these new programs and requirements.
This webinar series is designed to give psychiatrists the tools they need to succeed with payment reform.
MIPS Performance Categories
The MIPS Cost category measures the Medicare resources used by your patients.
The MIPS Improvement Activities Performance category rewards your efforts to improve clinical practice.
Quality Performance category aims to improve patient outcomes.
Advancing Care Information Performance category evaluates your use of electronic health records.
Incentives for Alternative Payment Models support new care models with better quality and lower costs.
There are two new pathways under the MACRA for psychiatrists to earn substantial rewards.
First, MIPS replaces existing Medicare quality programs and offers the first real opportunity for clinicians to receive sizable rewards for meeting quality metrics and achieving a high level of performance.
There are four performance Categories that fall under MIPS:
Advancing Care Information
Second, physicians who participate in "advanced" APMs can earn a 5% bonus for each year they meet the qualifying criteria. The MACRA includes $100 million for technical assistance to small and rural practices and those in health professional shortage areas for transitioning to MIPS reporting and new models of care.
This webinar series is designed to give psychiatrists the tools they need to succeed in Medicare’s new “Quality Payment Program” under MACRA.
