All candidates for the APA National Election must be currently active voting members of the APA. Voting members of the APA are of the following member classification: Resident-Fellow Member, General Member, Fellow, Distinguished Fellow, Distinguished Life Fellow, Life Fellow and Life Member. Medical Students and International Members are not eligible to run for national office.
APA Election Guidelines prohibits the use of APA listservs or listservs used for Area Council/State Association, or District Branch functions (except the "Member-to-Member" listserv) for any APA campaign purposes. To post campaign messages and/or campaign on behalf of a candidate, join the "Member-to-Member" listserv by sending a request to election@psych.org.

Election Guidelines, developed by the Elections Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees are intended to provide a level playing field for candidates. Campaigning by candidates and supporters begins when the slate of candidates is announced by November 1.
