Each year APA honors individuals for career recognition, lifetime service, outstanding research, and other categories that improve the lives of people with mental illness. Below, you will find a summary of all APA awards.
Psychiatric Services Achievement Awards
The Psychiatric Services Achievement Awards have recognized creative models of service delivery and innovative programs for persons with mental illness or disabilities.
Research Mentorship Award
The Research Mentorship Award Honors an academic psychiatrist who has fostered the research of of a student, Resident-Fellow Member, or early-career psychiatrist in a significant manner through direct mentorship.
Resident Recognition Award
The Resident Recognition Award is presented annually to outstanding psychiatry residents or fellows from each department or institution who exemplifies one or more APA values.
Roeske Teaching Award
The Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D., Certificate is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding and sustaining contributions to medical student education.
Ronald A. Shellow Award
The Ronald A. Shellow Award recognizes departing members of the Assembly who have served the Assembly far beyond the general standards of service shown by most members of the Assembly.
Simon Bolivar Award
The Simon Bolivar Award honors a prominent advocate for Hispanics and is designed to sensitize APA members to the mental health problems and goals of Hispanics.
Solomon Carter Fuller Award
The Solomon Carter Fuller Award honors a black citizen who has pioneered in an area that has significantly improved the quality of life for black people.
Vestermark Psychiatry Educator Award
The Vestermark Psychiatry Educator Award recognizes excellence, leadership, and creativity in the field of psychiatric education and is given annually to a psychiatric educator for outstanding contributions to the education and development of psychiatrists.
Warren Williams Assembly Speaker’s Award
The Warren Williams Assembly Speaker’s Award recognizes recent or current outstanding activities or contributions in the field of psychiatry and mental health.
William Sorum Assembly Resident-Fellow Member Awards
The William Sorum Assembly Resident-Fellow Member Award honors a Resident-Fellow Member or a district branch in each Area for notable progress in RFM involvement in APA.
William W. “Bill” Richards Rural Psychiatry Award
The William W. Richards Rural Psychiatry Award recognizes individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the treatment of patients and the practice of psychiatry in rural geographic areas.
