Oral History Collection
Between 1958 and 1980, oral histories were conducted by library staff, members of the History, Library and Museum Committee, and other interested members of the APA. The oral histories were an attempt to preserve the memories of older members of the APA regarding the development of American psychiatry in the twentieth century. Many of these interviews achieve that goal, but they can be lengthy and time-consuming to use.
The Archives has legal agreements that permit use of two-thirds of these oral histories. Those with no agreements can be dealt with on a case by case basis as needs arise. Below is a list that details the current status of the collection. This collection has not grown since 1980 and is not expected to do so in the future. For several of the histories, transcripts are not available at this time. Also included in the Oral History record group are some miscellaneous tapes of meetings, other interviews, etc.
"(nt)" following a name signifies that no tapes are available.
